Parks

(If for some reason these links are not working you can copy and paste them from the bottom of page)
Ok I am mad. Because of our incompetent governor Rod Blagojevich, the people of Illinois are losing out.
"The Department of Children and Family Services will lose 304 positions, while the Department of Human Services will be cut by 73 employees. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will lose 39 workers and the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency will be cut by 34 employees "

We are losing 11 state parks and 14 historic sites because of his incompetence. As you are all aware my family and I spend a lot of time outside in our state parks. Since the kids are still young we have not visited too many historic sites yet but we try to visit a few every year. My daughter has started to show genuine interest in history, and government this past summer. I think part of her interest is because she is old enough to read and understand all those little plaques that are all over the state parks and historic sites that we visit.

Like many people we live in a town so we need the larger state parks to help teach our children about the outdoors and instill in them a love of the natural world that we are so dependent on. My son is a conservationist at heart- he is conscious of recycling and cleaning up trash. He is fascinated by the way nature works and loves to discover the plants, animals, insect and other things that we can observe in our state parks. We visit Moraine View several times a year and every time we come home with our batteries recharged and our love on nature renewed.

These parks and historical sites closing are personally affecting my family and me. But I am sure that the impact of the layoffs of DCFS and Dept of Human Services will be felt by or communities. Who will be looking out for those families? How are the already overworked underpaid people that are lucky enough to keep their jobs in these departments ever going to keep up now? Someone will surely fall through the cracks.
Gov. Blagojevich reminds me of this guy I once knew. His family was always suffering because of his childish spending. This guy would buy video games, music, movies, pay-per-views, computers, fancy game systems, flashy cars, collectables and other nonsense while his wife would go to the food bank so the kids could eat because her husband had spent all the grocery money on his toys or pet projects. Blagojevich wanted to fly back to Chicago daily instead of using the Governor’s mansion that the state provides. He spent our tax money on his convenience and pet projects while leaving the citizens of Illinois holding the bag.
