Ok not exactly Memorial Day colors, but those are some of the colors in my yard. Our little house wren is back and singing his little heart out trying to impress the girls with his nest in the wren house in the tree in our back yard. There is a pair of cardinals that have been in the feeder daily and the last few days Indigo Buntings. I saw two males and at least one female. We have also had gold finches and both downy and hair woodpeckers and even a humming bird. Our yard is buzzing with feathered friends.
In other news I planted my vegetable garden. This is my first attempt at a garden. It is small only 9x5- we planted cucumbers, beans, tomatoes, peas, carrots, and lettuce. Yes that is a lot of stuff for a small space, but I did some reading on container gardens and I am confidante I can make it work. We also have strawberries in a pot. I have grown strawberries before but never in a pot, so will we see how that works out. Fawn and I also planted some herbs in some containers too. I plan to put in some sunflower soon also. Those huge Mammoth one that you can actually eat the seeds
As far as flowers are concerned we started work on the front yard flower bed. We are putting in landscaping timbers and pulled up all the stepping stones I want to put impatiens in that one. On the side of the house I found some gladioli on sale to go there. I hope it is not too late to get those to grow. I promised Fawn we would try to get lavender to grow too but it might be too late to start that too but for a $1 it is worth the try. I hope that this fall I can afford to plant more crocuses in the front too. I love the way they look in the spring.
