Birder’s Paradise

(Part 4)
Cache River State Natural Area and Ferne Clyffe State Park were where I saw the majority of birds this trip. If you want to look up any of the birds in this post try All About Birds
I saw Ruby-throated hummingbirds, Barn Swallows, Bald Eagles, Turkey Vultures, Chipping Sparrows, American Crows, Blue Jays, European Starlings, Canada Geese, Red-tailed Hawks, Turkeys, Red-winged blackbirds, Great Egrets, Great Blue Herons, Sandhill Cranes, Whip-poor-wills (Heard) (Deer saw), Northern Bobwhites, Eastern Kingbird, Greater Prairie Chicken (heard maybe),Indigo bunting, Cardinals, House Finches, Downy Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker (Deer saw), Mallards, Ring-necked Pheasants, White-breasted Nuthatches and Red-breasted Nuthatches. As you can see from the list there were a lot of birds to see.

The most exciting was the Sandhill Cranes and the Great Egrets- these were a first for me. The bald Eagles were cool too, but they were nesting and there were chicks in the nest. Of course I did not get to see the chicks just the very large parent peering over the side of the nest. I felt like I was in a scene from Jurassic Park. I felt better when returned to camp. We had a little chipping sparrow at our camp site that could fly right up and land on the bench beside us. He liked Fritos-funny/punny as it was a chipping sparrow. There were all sorts of ducks on this trip too. I rarely see ducks, so I am not very good at identifying them. Like a little kid, I just say- oooo ducks.

I got to see all these birds and we didn’t even find the Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge. I can’t wait to go back and see what else can be seen.

So there are not good pics of the birds . Trees don't fly away so here are somemore tree pics.

See what I mean about Giant Trees?
