We have so much stuff planned this summer that we realized that we need to plan when we are going camping. Usually we just take off for the weekend to someplace close and then plan just one trip a bit farther. After looking at the calendar we will only have 5 times we will be able to camp weather permitting. We want to camp at Evergreen Lake, Sand Ridge Forest, Moraine View, Jubilee, and Weldon springs. We didn’t even think about camping over Memorial Day weekend until Monday and of course by then it was too late to reserve even a primitive site. So this weekend we are just going to drive out to Evergreen Lake and go bird watching for the morning maybe have a picnic then come home. So we will get some outdoor time.
We have decided that we are going to start a family tradition of camping the day the kids get out of school. We did this last year and it was a great way to mark the end of school and the beginning of summer. So we are going to pack up and take off for the great outdoors the minute the kids get back with their report cards.
You know we could have never planned like this when Deer was in the Army. And the idea of an annual family camping trip would have never been conceived. Infantry are always deployed or in the field when the weather is nice. Sometimes I don’t miss the Army.
