(Part 2)
Southern Illinois is full of interesting things to see. Everything we saw was new to my eyes and the scenery was breath taking. Living here in Central Illinois things are sort of flat and… plowed, so all the hills, trees, wetlands and caves of Southern Illinois were fascinating to me. We started our trip at Ferne Clyffe State Park.
Ferne Clyffe is full of cool trails, cliffs, caves, a waterfall and even a lake to fish on. The flora and fauna was stunning. Every inch of the place is green, lush and alive.(yes there ferns too) They have a couple of camp grounds. We opted for the one closest to the shower house and with electricity. This was as sightseeing trip more than just a camping adventure, so we wanted to be comfortable when we returned to camp and electricity meant we could have a fan. I think next time I plan to use electric, I will bring my electric cooker. This time I had a terrible time getting the food hot enough and was sick of smelling like smoke. We brought charcoal and planned to buy fire wood but didn’t have luck finding a place that sold it. We didn’t realize until the last night after supper that we could gather firewood at this park.
We made Ferne Clyffe SP our base camp and did all our trips around there. We visited Cache River State Natural Area, Shawnee National Forest (Garden of the Gods, Little Grand Canyon), Metropolis IL and we even drove over the Ohio River to say we had been to Kentucky

For some reason the link for Ferne Clyffe is not working. I don't know why it works on the preview window and the HTML looks fine. So here is the address.
