Southern Illinois

(Part 1)
First just to make it clear I am talking about Southern Illinois- the real Southern Illinois not the southern Illinois that some people from Chicago think of. Let’s face it there are those people that think anything south of Interstate 80 is southern Illinois and Springfield is a quaint little village that Lincoln lived in before becoming President. I just want to make it clear we were roughly 50 miles from Kentucky in the real southern Illinois.
We are back from our little vacation. For our “annual school is out camping trip”, we try to go some place new every year. Some of you know that last year in effort to find a new place to camp we found that there is a place in southern Illinois that has these giant Cypress trees. It is called Cache River State Natural Area. I was so excited about all the possible bird watching that I could do there, that I lobbied hard to go visit. Deer wanted to visit Shawnee National Forest also in southern Illinois; so we decided to save for the year and make this our “annual school is out camping trip” for this year. I have a lot to say so decide to break it up into 6 posts. I will also post pictures.
