Blowout

At Sand Ridge we saw something that we saw last year in the desert-a blowout. For those of you who do not know what a blowout is; it is a when the plants and other vegetation have died because of drought or maybe trampling and winds blow out the dry lose soil on top making a depression in the ground. I am no expert but that sounds like the dust bowl to me.



Anyway there are these blowouts at Sand Ridge.

The soil is mostly sand so in places that lack plants to hold down the soil it has blown away just like in the desert.

If you ignore the trees all around the blowout you would think you were in the desert.



It was sort of cool to see that in the middle of a forest.



There were some plants trying to take back the area.






They are sort of an inspiration growing here in the sand defying everything they tell us about gardening.




I have hope for my front yard.
